When I was a really, really little girl we used to have a pair of apple trees in the back yard. They grew close together, and I'm sure their roots were just as intertwined as their branches were. In the warm months, they'd bear large, juicy, ripe fruit and I used to think that their being so close together like that was somewhat magical.
Hey, I was a kid.
Anyway, I had two dreams involving those apple trees, and I'm going to share one of them right now.
It wasn't much of a dream, really, and seeing as I'll be 26 in December it's surprising I remember as much of it as I do.
The dream took place outside, during summer, in the evening when everything is getting dark and the sun is set already but you can still easily see and parents haven't called in their kids, yet. Everything was tinted blue, as it would be in real life at that hour. The grass was lush and green and felt slightly wet under my bare feet. The sky was a clear blue color, no clouds. The air was lukewarm, very comfortable. Enough to be warm, without being too hot and without a chill. There was a soft breeze, cool but not enough to give you a chill.
I had on a pure white, sleeveless dress with a full skirt down to my shins that was simple in it's design, but not hindering. From the feel and look of it, I'd say it was probably made of cotton, it was light and airy.
I was standing by the apple trees, looking up into the tall branches and vividly green leaves. I don't remember seeing apples in the dream.
In the branches, pretty far above my head but still not anywhere near the top of the tree, I saw a small owl, just as pure white as my dress, perched among the branches. Nothing obscured it, not even the leaves.
My dream self stared at the owl, mystified, feeling somehow that this creature was magical and meant something (at least to my dream self, anyway).
I remember that I had a conversation with it, it spoke to me. No, I didn't see it's beak move, although it was a dream so it wouldn't have been weird if I had. And, no at this stage of my life I do not remember at all what it said to me or what I said to it.
That's pretty much all I remember of the dream.
